I got home early today and my girlfriend and I went to shoot some pictures. We ended up in williamsburg bordering greenpoint. As we passed the pool i noticed people inside. I Had heard that the pool was closed for renovation so after dinner we headed over.

Mccarren Pool is awesome but due to low light, (i never make it out in the light) I had to shoot something with light on it. I believe that this was the ticket booth, now a skeleton of its former self it looks like some kind of prehistoric animal.

What an awesome find. I can't believe the decay on the ticket booth when the brick work doesn't look to be more than a few years old. This place must be huge! Shame to be empty like that. I hope they are rehabilitating it.

yea they have just painted the brick.. I came late as it was covered with graffiti. I would have loved to shoot it when it was still tagged up.

Ahh. I never would have guessed that. How old is that place? Any idea how long it's been empty?

The pool was finished and opened on July 31, 1936, it was used as a pool with a capacity of 6800 until it was closed in 1984 in 2001 it was cleaned up after lying stagnant for all those years. Between 2005 and 2006 it was used as a outdoor concert venue and has been closed for renovation since late 2007, with construction scheduled to begin later this year. SO its had a checkered past but what a wonderful place to shoot pictures.

Wow! That says something about construction quality of the 30s if it had something left to clean up after sitting that long. I can't believe those brick arches are 80 75 years old though! Wow! I do envy your wonderful place :B

Yea its pretty crazy, on top of that there were 10 more built by New York around the same time. I am going to have to see what happened to the others.
